The finance team are looking for a dynamic individual who is seeking the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on healthcare delivery and patient outcomes, and work as part of a highly dedicated team. All candidates should be fully qualified with prior NHS experience, and be able to work on site in Cardiff 2-3 days per week.

The post holder will be an integral member of the senior finance team within the Trust, and an active participant within the senior management teams of the Cancer Centre and Blood Service. They will be responsible for the overall performance of the divisional finance teams and ensure the delivery of an efficient and effective business partner finance service. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure the finance business partner function is proactive and influential in its contribution to the Trusts strategic and operational plan
  • Undertake the role of a senior business partner, working alongside the divisional directors and senior budget holders to provide expert professional financial, management and business advice covering all aspects of service delivery
  • Formulate short, medium and longer term divisional financial strategic plans which involve uncertainty and may impact on the entire organisation
  • Regularly monitor and review plans and adjust for changes in local need and in response to changes in national policy guidance
  • Lead the promotion and delivery of good financial management, so that the divisions resources are safeguarded, used appropriately, economically, efficiently and effectively
  • Provide advice on and develop the financial aspects of business cases, service delivery options and general investment / disinvestment alternatives
  • Identify opportunities for optimising the resources available to the Trust for the purposes of improving patient care whilst maximising value for money
  • Development of detailed financial projections to manage and oversee the delivery of a financial outturn position which is in line with the approved annual financial plan within the service delivery divisions
  • Responsible for the proper use, monitoring and management of operational budgets
  • Advising on financial performance management and measurement and using benchmarking, to enhance the organisation’s performance
  • Work closely with and support the deputy director of finance in developing strong and constructive working relationships with leading decision makers in partner organisations and key external stakeholders, such as other NHS organisations, Welsh Government, WHSSC, commercial private sector partner organisations, the third sector and local authorities

Applicants should be fully qualified accountants with significant experience within the NHS in financial management/business partnering roles. You will demonstrate excellent business partnering, stakeholder management and change management skills.

The role provides the opportunity to cover a wide remit including Cancer Services, Blood Services, private patients, finance improvement, costing and R&D.
