A historic and well-established charity is seeking a strategic and hands-on Chief Financial Officer to lead its Finance function and support long-term organisational sustainability. As part of the Senior Management Team, you will guide financial strategy, strengthen governance, and provide clear, insightful reporting to senior leaders and committees.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Finance function, ensuring accurate management accounts, budgets, cashflow and statutory reports across multiple entities.
- Advise senior leadership on financial strategy, risk, investment performance and commercial planning.
- Oversee the Finance Team, ensuring strong controls, systems, KPIs and compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
- Deliver annual budgets, forecasts, year-end processes, internal/external audits, payroll, pensions, VAT, PAYE, NI, gift aid and management of restricted funds.
- Support project development and capital work with financial modelling, costings and business cases.
- Manage key external relationships, including banks, insurers and investment managers.
- Provide high-quality reporting to governance committees and ensure transparent financial information.
- Contribute to property strategy, oversee leases and transactions, and support grant funding processes.
- Champion the organisation’s Net Zero commitments, ensuring financial planning supports carbon-reduction goals.

- Senior finance professional with leadership experience in a complex or charitable environment.
- Strong strategic judgement, excellent communication skills, and confidence presenting to non-financial stakeholders.
- Skilled in financial governance, risk management, compliance and multi-entity reporting.
- Able to balance high-level strategic input with operational oversight.
