As part of an ambitious two-year transformation programme, IOSH is seeking a commercially minded and change-oriented Head of Finance & Procurement (12 month fixed term contract), to lead its finance and procurement functions through a period of strategic evolution and operational improvement.

The Opportunity:

This is a pivotal leadership role for an experienced finance professional who thrives in environments of change and transformation. Reporting into the Finance Director, the Head of Finance & Procurement will lead financial operations, strengthen commercial decision-making, and modernise processes, systems, and reporting capabilities across the organisation.

The successful candidate will bring a strong blend of technical expertise, business partnering ability, and a pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset. This role requires someone who can challenge historical norms, drive accountability, and embed a culture of continuous improvement.

With responsibility for both finance and procurement, this position offers the opportunity to shape best practice, enhance stakeholder engagement, and support the organisation’s wider strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the finance and procurement teams through a period of transformation, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
  • Act as a trusted business partner to senior leaders, providing commercial insight and strategic financial support.
  • Challenge existing practices and identify opportunities for operational improvement and efficiencies.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and high performance across teams.

Finance Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day finance function, ensuring robust financial controls, reporting accuracy, and compliance.
  • Support the Finance Director in preparing statutory accounts and ensuring adherence to evolving accounting standards, including FRS 102 updates and related disclosure requirements.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external auditors.
  • Ensure effective management of cashflow and reserves within a financially healthy organisation with approximately £20m annual turnover.
  • Review and improve financial reporting processes, with scope to introduce enhanced analytics and dashboarding capabilities (e.g. Power BI).

Procurement Leadership

  • Lead and develop the procurement function to ensure value for money, effective supplier management, and alignment with organisational needs.
  • Oversee procurement strategy and governance, ensuring robust controls and commercial effectiveness.
  • Drive best practice across procurement processes and stakeholder engagement.

Business Partnering & Capability Building

  • Strengthen finance business partnering across the organisation, enabling better decision-making and budget ownership.
  • Deliver finance training and support for budget managers to improve financial literacy and accountability.
  • Build strong internal relationships and ensure finance is viewed as a proactive, value-adding function.

Team Structure:

The Head of Finance & Procurement will lead a multidisciplinary team, including:

  • Financial Controller
  • 2 x Procurement Business Partners
  • 2 x Senior Finance Business Partners
  • 2 x Finance Business Partners

Candidate Profile:

We are seeking an experienced finance leader with the following background:

  • Qualified Accountant (CIMA or CCAB).
  • Strong understanding of charity accounting and relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrable success in leading change, reviewing processes, and driving transformation.
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to balance strategic thinking and operational delivery.
  • Experience of business partnering and stakeholder engagement at senior level.
  • Knowledge of statutory reporting requirements and accounting standards, including FRS 102 developments.
  • Track record of improving reporting capability and leveraging finance systems/data tools.
  • Practical, adaptable, and focused on outcomes.
  • Experience with the following systems would be advantageous:
    • Access Dimensions
    • Microsoft Dynamics
    • Power BI
