About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Management Accountant to join our clients Finance team in Hereford with a hybrid work arrangement. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the delivery of high-quality financial management services, support strategic decision-making, and contribute to a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Working closely with senior leaders, budget holders, and strategic finance colleagues, you will play a key role in ensuring robust financial planning, monitoring, forecasting, and reporting across allocated service areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the provision of financial information and services in line with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Oversee and develop a small team, ensuring deadlines are met and quality standards consistently achieved.
- Act as the main point of contact for finance and budget matters within allocated service areas.
- Deliver accurate and timely budget monitoring, forecasting, and financial advice.
- Coordinate monthly budget forecasting processes and provide robust, evidence-based analysis of variances.
- Support detailed budget setting and year-end final accounts processes, ensuring audit readiness and compliance with agreed timetables.
- Prepare and complete government and statistical returns as required.
- Promote continuous improvement in financial systems, processes, and reporting.
- Build strong working relationships with budget holders, strategic advisors, and key stakeholders.
- Monitor and manage team performance, conduct 1:1s and annual reviews, and identify training and development needs.
- Ensure accurate reconciliation of balance sheet codes and adherence to financial regulations and accounting standards.
What We’re Looking For
Experience
- Significant experience within a financial and accounting environment.
- Experience managing and supervising staff, motivating teams to deliver high standards.
- Proven ability to streamline processes and maximise the use of accountancy systems.
- Strong experience using financial systems and Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel.
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders across directorates and partner organisations.
- A flexible, team-focused approach.
- Experience using Unit 4 Business World (desirable).
Qualifications
- Professionally qualified (ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) or nearly qualified.
